ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Bodies of Matter is a powerful collection of works curated by GALLIM’s choreographer and artistic director, Andrea Miller, spanning 19 years of her dynamic vision for dance. This program showcases six distinct pieces—each a universe unto itself—brought vividly to life by the breathtaking performances of GALLIM’s dancers.
The works include:
- state – An exploration of five emotional and physical states of womanhood, the deep bonds women build to support one another and the urgency and beauty of their individual expression.
- Middle Length Poem – A dancer as writer, a body as unfinished poem. This solo traces the obsessive, elusive process of creation: the chase, the loss, the surrender, the sudden arrival of something true. Written in real time. Never quite complete.
- BRUCE – arrives like a party that forgot its manners. Set to the infectious rhythms of Israeli band Balkan Beat Box, this full-company work explodes with humor, wit, and unstoppable momentum. Virtuosic and deeply expressive improvisors, GALLIM’s dancers ignite the stage and audiences with contagious physical exuberance, it’s GALLIM at its most irresistibly alive.
- Desde – moves like a sunset, atmospheric, inevitable, gone before one’s ready. Nicolas Jaar’s haunting soundscapes hold bodies in rare conversation: precise, deeply attuned, quietly extraordinary. The work asks everything of its performers and reveals almost nothing of the effort leaving only the breathtaking sensation of having witnessed something ineffable.
- No Ordinary Love – set to Sade’s iconic ballad, this duet asks what love actually costs. Two dancers, electric together, move through devotion and exhaustion, tenderness and explosive force. A portrait of love not as feeling but as act — chosen, again and again, at full effort.
- SAMA – A glimpse at a tangible universe where individuals have a space to express themselves and transcend through movement. There are essential, ambiguous and complex elements of our humanity that we can only be accessed through our physical experience. Sama explores this head on.
Together, these works form a richly layered portrait of the body as a vessel for memory, connection and transcendence.

About GALLIM
Founded in 2007 by choreographer Andrea Miller, GALLIM is a New York City–based contemporary dance company known for its visceral physicality, boundary-blurring artistry, and deeply human work. Miller’s choreography merges fierce athleticism with theatrical innovation to create immersive performance experiences that are immediate, transformative, and unforgettable.
GALLIM’s work has been presented at leading venues and festivals worldwide, including Lincoln Center, Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Jacob’s Pillow, and The Harris Theater, with additional collaborations spanning film, fashion, music, and visual art.
At the core of GALLIM is a dynamic ecosystem of creation, performance, and education. Through its School of Movement and expansive educational programming, the company provides training, creative development, and meaningful access points for artists at every stage.
Andrea Miller is the founder and artistic director of GALLIM, a New York City-based company at the intersection of dance-making, education, and community. A creator and collaborator for dance, film, fashion, and the visual arts, Miller is known for her exploration of the essential elements of human existence and the alchemy of movement and performance. Her works are performed at leading venues worldwide, including Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, BAM, The Joyce Theater, Jacob’s Pillow, Royal Albert Hall, Sadler’s Wells, Théâtre National de Chaillot, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, the Victoria and Albert Museum, and White Cube.
Commissions include New York City Ballet, English National Ballet, Martha Graham Dance Company, A.I.M. by Kyle Abraham, and Rambert. Her film collaborations span work with directors Xavier Dolan, Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost, and Ezra Hurwitz and Ben Stamper. In fashion, she has worked with Hermès, Chanel, Vogue, Max Mara, and Calvin Klein.
Miller is a lecturer at the Yale School of Drama and a graduate of The Juilliard School. She is a Guggenheim, Sadler’s Wells, New York City Center, and Princess Grace Fellow, and serves on the boards of Chelsea Factory and the Doris Humphrey Foundation. Her repertoire, methodology, and training are taught through GALLIM’s School of Movement and at institutions including Juilliard, SUNY Purchase, USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance, NYU, and Harvard.
