THE TORONTO STAGE COMPANY ACQUIRES THE FORMER FLECK DANCE THEATRE

·      Now renamed The Terminal Theatre, performances will begin in December when Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre presents the 37th Edition of WINTERSONG.

·      The Toronto Stage Company will present Jason Robert Brown’s intimate and emotionally powerful musical THE LAST FIVE YEARS beginning in January 2026.

·      The lease agreement covering a period of 10 years guarantees that Toronto’s only venue purpose built for dance remains a vibrant home for the performing arts.

Toronto, November 6, 2025 – The Toronto Stage Company today announced the successful acquisition of the lease to the former Fleck Dance Theatre at Queens Quay Terminal. Opened in 1983 and closed this past March, “The Fleck” originally known as The Premiere Dance Theatre had been the spiritual home of dance in Toronto for over 42 years.

The theatre will reopen in December as The Terminal Theatre – honouring the historic Queens Quay Terminal building that houses the venerable performance space.

“As a venue primarily used for dance, we were not familiar with The Fleck when we heard the announcement of its closing last November” said Jon Chaters Founder of The Toronto Stage Company. “However, the more we learned about the space, the more it seemed like a fit for us.  365 days since the announcement of the closure I’m pleased to announce the reopening”

The Terminal Theatre will become the home stage for The Toronto Stage Company.  We plan to present an annual season of 4 to 6 plays and musicals beginning in September 2026.

The Terminal Theatre will also be made available to the dance companies that have made the venue home for four decades as well as the wider performing arts community.

“The Terminal Theatre has been home to CCDT since 1983, and to our solstice-themed production, WINTERSONG – dances for a sacred season, since 1988. With WINTERSONG’s traditional December run, the honour has fallen to our company of extraordinary next-generation dance artists to reopen

this space to next-generation audiences from schools across the City, prior to our public run. How fitting that the programme’s theme of finding light amid the growing dark will first touch those young people who now stand to inherit and to enliven and to preserve this miraculously re-mounted jewel on the waterfront” said Deborah Lundmark, Artistic Director of Canadian Contemporary Dance Theatre.

“It’s exciting, and in many ways right to have the Terminal Theatre reopen with a dance. Especially that it is CCDT presenting the 37th edition of WINTERSONG” added Chaters. “Throughout the past year and through our fundraising efforts I’ve met with hundreds of people and been overwhelmed by the support within the dance community for keeping this space open”.

The Toronto Stage Company will present our first production – Jason Robert Brown’s musical masterpiece THE LAST FIVE YEARS beginning January 20th, 2026.  There is an additional press release with those details.
